In Order to Live

I have been reading out loud to my children a book by Yeonmi Park, a North Korean Defector who shares her experiences.  She was born in the hardships of communist North Korea, escaped to China where she barely survived as an illegal, and finally the difficult integration into a free society in South Korea where she became a legal citizen.

The book is entitled, “In Order To Live.”

This young woman’s life reveals the evil horrors of communism, a system where love or compassion are essentially illegal.  Through her eyes, we seeing what life is like when there is no Holy Spirit, and merely surviving consumes your every thought.

This book shows us the responsibility of living in a free society and opens up terrific discussions for our family about things we take for granted.

As we watch the disintegration of this country with a push into socialism, we realize the communist propaganda machine is taking great advantage of the ignorance of a major portion of our citizens. We must be careful.  We must be informed.

This book is an education.  So are others about communism that I have recommended in past posts.  The cumulation of reading about what others have experienced – especially in contrast to the promises of Utopia offered by the propaganda machine – is helping us to perceive what challenges our country faces.

It is important to note – our knowledge of the Bible is the primary key to understanding the crucial nature of the decisions before us.  With every book our family consumes, it is the Biblical concepts and principles of the Kingdom of God that guide and form our understanding.

In everything, Christ our King is the One we keep our eyes on, the One our hearts seek to serve and please.  Everything is lived out behind the veil.  Whether in liberty or slavery, to live is Christ, to die is gain.  And we will live this life in honor and service of this High and Mighty King.

We are citizens of heaven.  I plan to act like who I am.  Citizen of the Kingdom.   A child of God.  Bride of the King. The righteousness of God in Jesus Christ. Ransomed. Free. Resisting evil at all times and drawing near to God in every moment.

In liberty or in captivity, I simply obey and follow my King.  In these days, I seek what he would have me do – or not do – in the situations I face.

Service to my King is all I seek.  How it turns out is up to Him, and He is trustworthy.
